Bye Bye Dip Dip!

On the 6th of June 2014, I reluctantly registered for Diploma in Human Resource Management, University of Malaya and checked in at Tuanku Bahiyah Residential College (the second college). Sherry was the first to say hi to me while queuing for the registration. Initially, my room was at ground floor, right in front of the toilet. My roommate throughout the first year of diploma was Aida Munirah. Jim Jims (Hazimah) was actually my roommate too but only for a few weeks before we had to move to a smaller room meant for only two residents.

Moments that I truly cherish with Aida are when we watched movies together on laptop, emotionally sang songs we both love, memorized things together for finals, goofed around and tell stories to each other, but most of all, the way she nursed me when I was sick. During the first year I got sick quite frequently. She was always concerned when I coughed/laughed/talked too much and barf.. when my temperature was rising.. So glad I had you, Aida! :)

The first semester was a short semester so I have only learned two subjects which were Marketing and Economics. To be frank, I used to think that Economics was harder than Marketing but it turned out I got an A for Economics and B for Marketing. My pointer was 3.50. Formed an assignment group that consisted of Hadi, Izz, Maizurah, Syed, Khalida, Syera, and I but throughout the two years, Hadi and Izz have been changing to a few other groups.

The subjects that I have learned in semester two are English Proficiency, Ethics and Business Law, Management, Accounting and Personal Development Programme I. English has always been my favourite subject. To get lecturers like Madam Ruth and Mr. Vincent makes this subject even more exciting. Also took the MUET classes with Madam Shanda and learned a lot of answering techniques for the exam. Accounting was the killer subject for this whole course, I suppose. I never liked calculations. Having said that, it was somewhat a miracle when I got 40 out of 50 for the midterm paper. I got 3.00 for my GPA.

For the record, the third semester has been the most hectic semester of my diploma. It is due to the fact that I join University of Malaya’s theatre carnival (KARVITER) and also their performing arts festival (FESENI). I went for the theatre workshop held during the end of my second semester break and had to perform as a character and type of theatre that I am not familiar with. For KARVITER, I became the assistant director but I did not do much as there were already two directors. I still came for rehearsals and helped the casts to practice. I also went for a singing competition in my college which was the Second Idol but did not make it to FESENI. However, through that platform, my senior recognised my singing talent and asked me to join nasyid and so I did. It was a very memorable experience to join these performing arts activities as I have been wanting to do so since I was in school. I never took the chance I had back in school as I was too afraid to get out of my shell. On top of that, I also was chosen to be the voice of a stewardess giving the pre-boarding announcement for the opening act for Malam Anugerah Tuanku Bahiyah. I did the British accent and the audience actually thought that was a real recording of a stewardess. Haha

Despite the fact that I was really busy with the rehearsals, my focus on studies did not fade. I learned Critical Thinking and Effective Presentation Skills, Organisational Behaviour, Business Research, Management Information System and also Personal Development Programme II. Critical Thinking was my favourite subject. Every week in Critical Thinking tutorial class, we would be doing all kinds of activities which were so fun and exciting. Organisational Behaviour was also my favourite subject. I like learning about emotions and behaviour. In addition, I like taking the Personality Tests which was done in the tutorials class. Thanks to those tests, I now understand myself better. For Personal Development Programme II, there were 2 projects assigned. For the first project, my group mates and I did an awareness campaign on animal abuse around Perdanasiswa Complex. The second project was volunteering at Farm in the City, Seri Kembangan. It was exhausting yet wonderful. My results for this semester improved. My pointer was 3.46.

Since I was active in my college in my first year, I was chosen to remain in the Second Residential College for my second year. On the 6th of July 2015, I started off my second year of diploma. It was another short semester. I only learned two subjects which were Business and Professional Writing and also Human Resource Management. Both of the subjects were interesting. My group mates and I went to interview two companies which were Blackkiwi.Club and also Slimming Sanctuary. I had high expectations for this semester. I was hoping to make it on the Dean’s list. However, I only got 3.50 but I was content.

During my fifth semester, the subjects that I learned were Psychology, Negotiation Skills, Occupational Safety and Health Act, Project Management, Entrepreneurial Acculturation and also Personal Development Programme III. Two of my favourite subjects are Psychology and Negotiation skills. I have always wanted to study psychology because I find it interesting to learn about human’s behaviour. Negotiation Skills is also my favourite subject because it has no actual assignments as in reports-our assignments are only in the form of roleplays, debate and movie analysis. I was kinda bummed because I almost hit the Dean's list. I got 3.67 in which all subjects were mixed A's except for OSHA. I was pretty bummed because I knew I could've got better if I had more time to write. Like, I knew the answers but there was no time left so.... :(

For the final semester, I learned Human Resource Planning, Training and Development, Compensation and Benefits, Employment Act as well as Industrial Relations. HRP is like the core of HRM so if you're a HR student and you don't score this subject then I think you might as well kill yourself. Lol just kidding but really, it's as if you just wasted your whole 2 (and a half) years. I have always regarded C&B as the easiest subject for this sem but guess what? Since we all know that it's an easy subject, the lecturer most probably decided to go rigid while marking. Thus, a B- for me. Which is a little sad. It's safe to say that the T&D paper was the hardest. Though our team got full marks for the program that we conducted along with quite a high mark for the report, I still got a B+. Blergh. Anyhow, I scored an A for each of the rest of the subjects (HRP, Employment Act and Industrial Relations). Despite the fact that getting 3.60 for GPA and 3.45 for CGPA is nothing to be really proud of, I am philosophical about it. I hope everyone else is feeling the same way! :)
