Midterm Exam: English Paper

This is what I wrote for my midterm English paper during form 5. Never thought that this simple effusion would score me the highest in class. Here’s to you, Cikgu! :D

I used to be very weak at Mathematics. When I was in form 2, I had private classes for this subject at a tuition centre that is only a stone’s throw away from my house. At first, I was quite nervous about having a one-to-one classes with him. But as time went by, I enjoyed being taught by him.

Some teachers are very formal when teaching but not him. He treated me like a friend so it was very easy for me to interact with him without feeling awkward. I must admit that I am a slow learner. However, he never sighed no matter how many times he had to repeat the calculation just so that I would say “oh…..” when I finally got it.

I used to have 5 coloured pens in my pencil case. He used to make notes and diagrams on sheets of A4 paper by using those pens. Up until now, I still keep them in a file. They have their own sentimental value so I have no intention to throw them away.

He was like a best friend to me. He was very concerned about me. He was all ears whenever I need someone to vent to. He has been giving me advice about studies, relationship, religion and the future. He supports me in everything I do.

When I was in form 3, he was offered to teach at a school on an isolated island in Sabah. He gave me his phone number and told me to call or send him a text message if I had any problems. We sometimes chat on Facebook when he reached any internet coverage area.

I passed my PMR examination with flying colours. I got to A for all 8 subjects. I was so grateful. For all my struggle gas been paid. I could not have done it without all of my teachers’ effort. My former private teacher once told me that if I get straight A’s for PMR, he would buy an iPhone for me.

During the school holidays in March 2012, my teacher came back to the Peninsular to visit his family and friends. With my mother’s permission, I went out with him. My elder brother was in the same building as well so I could just call him in case of any untoward incidents.

We had lunch at a kopitiam and chatted for like, 2 hours. The food was on him. We then headed to a gadget shop because he wanted to buy a portable charger. He asked me if I wanted anything but I said no. I walked him to his car and he gave me a ride to the entrance. That was the last time I ever saw him. We seldom chat online as I have been studying. But when we do, he would still be concerned about me. He is definitely the best teacher I have ever had in my life.

Puan Noryani's remarks: Well done! You have a way with words.. Keep writing.. and reading..

Mark given: 43 out of 50
